Retirement isn’t like just resigning from a job. It isn’t like giving your two-week notice. It is a lot of work. I realized that today.
Elizabethe and I met with someone from the credit union about what we have to do and what our options are. (And, if you have not retired from a job, I’ll let you know this – there are a lot of people out there who want your lump-sum payment. But, you have to be careful so Uncle Sam doesn’t tax the heck out of your lump-sum.)
Add to that, I have to decide what is going to happen with my retirement party. Most of the people I work with are in California and Texas. There’s no way work will fly them here. And, I’m trying to decide if it is worth flying there (and if I can afford it.)
Then there is the retirement gift. They still have the proverbial watch, as well as other swag. Watch? Pocketknife? Pen and Pencil set? Globe? Honestly, most of the stuff they offer is stuff I’d never purchase. Although, my 20-year gift I use all the time. It’s a small stereo system. Hmmm… Maybe I will make that my retirement gift too. One for my office, and one for the studio?
Decisions, decisions.
